At Dan Caplis Law, our mission goes far beyond the courtroom. Every day, we stand beside people whose lives have been shattered by preventable tragedies, fighting to ensure they receive justice and the resources they need to rebuild. But our commitment does not end when the case closes. Webelieve in using our time, energy, and voice to help create safer communities so that fewer families will ever have to endure the pain we so often see in our work.
That is why our team proudly participated in the 2025 Move With MADD Denver Walk at Sloan’s Lake. This annual event raises mission-critical funds for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and brings people together to honor victims, support survivors, and rally the community to end drunk and drugged driving in Denver.
The reality is that these tragedies happen all too often in Colorado. In 2024, there were 210 deaths caused by impaired driving. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, nearly one in three traffic fatalities in the state involve an impaired driver. The Colorado Task Force on Drunk and Impaired Driving reports that in 2023, 29.2 percent of fatal crashes were caused by impaired drivers. For our team, these stories are not distant headlines. They are deeply personal. They represent real people, and real families that have been changed forever.
We serve clients across Colorado who have been affected by impaired driving. We have seen firsthand the devastation these crashes cause. Lives are cut short. Survivors face long roads to recovery. Families are left navigating grief that never truly ends. Our client’s courage inspires us to take action in ways that extend beyond the legal system.
On the day of the event, multiple members of our firm, including Managing Partner John Kellner and Trial Attorney Tom Byrnes, joined the 5K walk and helped raise funds for MADD’s important work. We are proud to share that we exceeded our fundraising goal thanks to the generosity of friends, family, and supporters who believe in the cause as much as we do.
The walk around Sloan’s Lake was powerful and emotional. Along the path, participants passed pictures and biographies of people whose lives were lost to drunk or drugged drivers in Denver. It was a sobering reminder of why this fight matters so much and a visual representation of the real human cost behind the statistics.
Who We Walked For
We walked for our clients who have been deeply affected by impaired driving. We walked for their families and friends who have stood by them through unimaginable pain and loss. We walked for our community, where we have seen firsthand the devastating consequences of these incidents. We also walked in honor of the founder of MADD, a mother who transformed the tragedy of losing her daughter to a drunk driver into a movement that has given strength, advocacy, and hope to so many.
Our Commitment
While we were honored to participate in this year’s event, our involvement with this cause will not stop here. We look forward to continuing to contribute to MADD’s mission and supporting efforts that make Colorado’s roads safer. At Dan Caplis Law, we are relentless in pursuing justice for our clients, but we are equally committed to prevention. Each life saved from impaired driving is a victory for us all
