Dan Deasy

When asked what gives him the biggest smile each day on the job, Dan Deasy doesn't pause before giving his answer: “Families. There is nothing like the satisfaction you get when you help families. We make it our business to pick up shattered pieces and rebuild dreams.”

Mr. Deasy has spent his career helping families. A devoted father, Mr. Deasy and his wife, Vickie, are the blessed parents of four children. “It all starts in the home – faith, compassion, commitment, and work ethic. Our willingness to fight the good fight, and the success we have, is built upon the foundations we have both inside and outside the home.”

Education

Dan Deasy attended the University of Colorado at Boulder where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then attended the University's School of Law, where he received the prestigious William O. DeSouchet Award for outstanding trial advocacy before graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1993. Following graduation, Mr. Deasy became a judicial clerk at the Jefferson County District Court and performed duties as a prosecutor in the First Judicial District of Colorado (Jefferson and Gilpin counties) until his departure in 1998. Mr. Deasy then went to work for a medical management group, serving as the director of contracting and legal affairs for a year before returning to litigation in 1999 as in-house counsel for Colorado's leading insurance carrier. In 2005, Mr. Deasy partnered with Dan Caplis in this firm.

Respected Educator and Trial Lawyer

When not serving the needs of injured people, Mr. Deasy devotes a great deal of time to trial advocacy instruction. Mr. Deasy has taught advocacy skills to attorneys and law students across the country as a faculty member at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, the University of Colorado School of Law, the University of Denver College of Law, and the Colorado District Attorneys Council Trial Techniques School. In addition, he has instructed in juvenile law, delinquent behavior, judicial function, and criminal investigation. Dan Deasy brings to this firm both a wealth of trial experience and a broad understanding of legal theory. Mr. Deasy has prosecuted and defended more than 150 criminal and civil suits in a multitude of Colorado venues.

In 2003, Mr. Deasy was recognized for outstanding leadership, community involvement, and professional accomplishments when he was named one of Denver’s 40 Under Forty by The Denver Business Journal. “It felt funny to be rewarded for doing things that I love doing,” says Mr. Deasy. "Being the proud son of a now retired Denver Police Officer, I came to appreciate the value of public service at a very young age. Combined with my mother's unmatched selflessness, my parents showed me and taught me to put the needs and concerns of others at the top of my priority list."

Dan Deasy says of Caplis & Deasy, LLC, “Our firm has helped families across the State of Colorado. We help victims. Whether you’ve been hurt because of a drunk driver or someone on the job, we offer and give you the help you need in dealing with the intimidating system of insurance claims adjusters and courthouses.”
